About Converse

The Converse company was started in 1908 in Malden, Massachusetts by Marquis Mills. The vision was the manufacturing for rubber galoshes. By the 1910s, 4,000 pairs a day were being made with rubber soles, and in 1915, the manufacture of tennis shoes began. The company produced shoes for the players of the first African-American New York Renaissance team, but during World War II it also supplied the U.S. Army with shoes. However, the company's fortunes began to decline tragically against the competition, so in 2001 it declared bankruptcy. In 2003, the company, was acquired by Nike, publishing basketball shoes as well, making it a favorite brand of many NBA players. Converse shoes were worn by many celebrities and to this day are one of the top choices, with Converse releasing Converse clothing, shoes and accessories for every age and gender.
